Creating Active Schools

The Creating Active Schools (CAS) pilot was developed in response to the rising number of children leading inactive lifestyles and the growing problem of obesity.

Previous physical activity interventions had not shown significant improvements, therefore CAS was introduced as a more comprehensive tool to bring about a change in behaviours, by influencing the entire school system.

The pilot program was implemented in five schools in North Yorkshire. One of these schools, Roecliffe COE Primary School, shared their positive results among both teachers and students.

A ‘whole school approach’ to increasing physical activity and Improving PE provision “Some staff were anxious about the impact it would have on learning, but now have seen it actually improves learning.” Sarah Ratcliffe, Years 4/5/6 Teacher, Roecliffe Primary School.
