I love exploring and being outdoors, it helps me clear my head helps me reflect and supports my mental and physical health. When I’m not working, I’m normally out bouldering, caving, paddling or going to gigs. I tend to class myself as an average adventurer, I will dabble in most outdoor sports, but I’m not particularly good at any of them.
I was not the ‘sporty kid’ when I was younger, but I always enjoyed taking part in outdoor activity sessions run through the scouts and just generally being outside. After finishing school, my joy of being outside led to me undertaking an apprenticeship in outdoor activities, which then led to working in various instructor roles for 10 years before I started at North Yorkshire Sport.
My role is place-based, so I cover the North Yorkshire Coast and very much base my work around the needs, desires and barriers of the community. This means I meet many interesting people and am given the time to build these relationships. I feel that I am given a lot of trust and autonomy to do my work, which means I can have a beneficial work-life balance.
