I joined North Yorkshire Sport in August 2023 after 15 enjoyable years in primary education. My background includes influencing school leaders to use physical activity, physical education and outdoor learning to support whole school priorities.
Having gained experience serving many schools within underprivileged communities and as someone who is unapologetically passionate about the health and wellbeing of children, I am absolutely confident that our organisations values reflect my own. I am now working with and contributing to our Children and Young People team which is a huge privilege both personally and professionally.

In terms of my education related focuses, my responsibilities include building relationships with school stakeholders. This is through providing guidance and support with the goal being to increase opportunities and positive experiences of physical activity and sport.

Balancing family life alongside leaving teaching to pursue a new career, it is fair to say that my own activity levels have fallen away. I now have the challenge of practicing what I preach in terms of reigniting my relationship with physical activity. Let’s say it’s a work in progress!

As a former non-league footballer, my weekends are now dominated by grassroots football. I assist my eldest sons’ team, while my wife juggles both our middle and youngest sons’ fixtures. As a parent I encourage all three of our children to continue to build on their positive relationship with activity. Our boys take part in swimming, schools sports, cycling, connecting with nature and not forgetting good old-fashioned play!

Alongside this, as a parent Governor within our local primary school Academy Council, I am responsible for overseeing decisions related to Personal Development, PE & Sports Premium and Pupil Premium funding.
