Kate Auld, Active Travel Manager at North Yorkshire Sport stood in front of a tree

Kate Auld

Active Travel Manager

I joined NYS in June 2025 to use my experience in communications, behaviour change, partnership development and hands-on delivery in a new role to support community active travel projects and help kickstart a revolution in active travel in York and North Yorkshire!
I’ve had a varied career across media, tourism, sport, hospitality and communications, from Radio 1 and London PR agencies to the London 2012 Olympics.
I didn’t grow up in a particularly sporty family and only learnt to ride a bike as a somewhat hesitant adult 10 years ago when my sons were starting to cycle. My experience led me to train as a cycling instructor and leader and set up a cycling confidence, advocacy and behaviour change firm “The Personal Cyclist”, to help people feel more confident, included and inspired to cycle.
I have a passion for helping people move more via walking, wheeling and cycling. I believe active travel can play a huge role in improving health, reducing inequalities, strengthening communities and supporting economic and climate goals.
Outside work I try to challenge myself and others; I’ve run the Knaresborough Bed Race several times to fundraise for local schools, volunteered for bike recycling charity Resurrection Bikes and run women’s cycling confidence programmes for Cycling UK. When I’m not walking our fox red labrador or ferrying/ coaching/ cheering our teenage sons I love to bike, bake & beekeep.
Two of my favourite quotes are “There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing” and “comparison is the thief of joy”
