Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

North Yorkshire Sport are committed to being proactive to ensure access to physical activity and sport across the County is for everyone, regardless of individual circumstance or background. We are fully committed to the principles of equal opportunities, tackling inequalities and working towards eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation in all forms. We are proactively tackling racism and racial inequalities in sport, disability discrimination, gender inequalities and all forms of inequality in physical activity and sport across North Yorkshire & York.

Our work in equality, diversity and inclusion is underpinned by a firm commitment from the NYS Board and staff team to better understand social injustice, improve our collective knowledge of the root causes of racial inequalities, improve our knowledge and support to people with disabilities, better understand issues facing the LGBTQ+ community and to better understand all forms of inequality across North Yorkshire & York. We will do this by working with national & local partners and communities to bring about meaningful and sustained change. We have a duty to use our collective influence and reach for good and to help tackle the inequalities we see in society.

We are firmly committed to being an anti-racist organisation and to better understanding and addressing social injustice, ensuring that prejudice and fear do not discourage people from taking part in physical activity and sport and leading an active lifestyle.

Whilst tackling Inequalities has been a key feature of our work for a number of years, we recognise that we need to do more and to be proactive to help address inequalities within sport & physical activity. This goes beyond programmes; this is about real behaviour change where we develop environments so communities can freely engage with sport and physical activity at any level.
