Meet Our Mentors

James Kirton

“My defining moment in swimming came in 2008 as I defied injuries to swim my way to my childhood dream becoming an Olympian. Representing Great Britain for over 6 years, reaching Olympic, World and European level.

“I have now moved away from the pool and spend my time mentoring a whole catalogue of different people, from the young and disengaged, gifted and talented, teachers and business Owners

“I believe that my story has a message for anyone wanting to find their inner strength to fulfil their potential.”

Jenny Wallwork

“In my career I’ve reached number 5 in the world, number 1 in Great Britain and represented the country in the commonwealth games along the way. It’s been an amazing journey.

I’ve had struggles in my career, we all do, we really do. It’s about how you choose to take on those personal challenges and using help or asking for it is a real strength.

“I’m passionate about supporting, encouraging and helping people to find their potential and I’m so glad that this programme is here to do that.”

Adam Whitehead

“My name is Adam Whitehead. I’m an athlete mentor at North Yorkshire sport.

“I am a former European and Commonwealth champion, and I swam the Olympic Games when I was 20.

“For me, having a mentor has always been incredibly important. When I think about my swimming career, I had various people that helped me along the way that shared their experience and lessons that I’d learned.

“To be able to do that now for other young people and try to have them be the best versions of themselves is something I find really rewarding.”
