• Recognise unwelcome behaviour – this session will discuss racism in various forms.
• Understand the role of bystanders – we don’t all have to be bold and directly address a perpetrator.
• Identify a range of tools that can be used to safely support or challenge others – this can be tailored to be for staff and volunteers identifying the racism and to the organisational response for managers or policies.
The session covers the current landscape of racism in the country and locality, drawing out the need for Active Bystanders.
It then takes participants through the science of why we do and do not take action in situations.
Then comes the TOOL KIT – this is a recognised toolkit for addressing unwelcome behaviour and includes things that can be done in the moment but also reporting mechanisms.
There is a chance to examine scenarios and what individual responses might be.
If you require further development support can be offered for management teams on enacting policy, difficult conversations and supporting perpetrators and victims including signposting to specialist organisations.
